Meet Baxter — a calm, gentle boy who somehow became the shelter’s longest-staying resident, and honestly? We can’t figure out why. This handsome 63-pound guy is one of the easiest dogs you’ll ever meet.

Baxter greets every visitor at his kennel door with a wagging tail and zero drama. He loves treats (and takes them so politely), enjoys a good scratch session, and will happily warm up to kids, men, and women alike. By the end of a walk, he was handing out kisses — because that’s just the kind of sweetheart he is.

He’s still learning the ropes of leash walking — it seems like the great outdoors might be pretty new to him — but he improved noticeably over the course of a single day, which tells you everything you need to know about how bright and willing he is. He already knows “sit” and appears to be potty trained.
